A little clarity before the first strip

Good wallpaper work begins before the paste.

The first step is a conversation about the room and the wallcovering. From there, the details that shape the installation become easier to see.

01 / THE CONVERSATION

Start with the room.

Where is the wallpaper going? Is it a single accent wall, several connected surfaces or a commercial space? A rough description is enough for an initial call. You can ask questions before you have dimensions, photos or a product picked out.

For a more detailed estimate, helpful context may include the project city, approximate wall dimensions, the material and the condition of the surface. These details are useful, not a requirement for getting in touch.

02 / THE SURFACE

Look beneath the pattern.

Wallpaper adheres to the wall that is there. Dust, old adhesive, peeling paint, uneven patches or an existing wallcovering can influence preparation. Smooth, sound and appropriately primed surfaces generally make it easier to achieve a clean finish.

What is appropriate depends on the wallcovering and the existing finish. The product’s instructions are a useful reference, especially for specialty or self-adhesive materials.

03 / THE MATERIAL

Give the paper its say.

Different wallcoverings behave differently. Some require paste on the material or wall; self-adhesive products depend heavily on a suitable, clean surface; natural or textured materials may make seams and variation more visible. The product label and manufacturer’s guidance matter.

If you have a sample, product page or brand name, you can share it when you call. Not knowing the exact material should not keep you from asking about an installation.

04 / THE FINISH

Follow the pattern through.

On a patterned wallpaper, the repeat is planned so the design carries from one strip to the next. A plumb starting line helps the first drop stay true; corners, trim and openings each need their own attention. These small decisions shape whether the whole wall reads as one composition.

The details of preparation, material and scope can be discussed directly before an estimate is prepared.
